新托福考試的最後一部分是“寫作”，要求考生寫2篇文章，第一篇叫做綜合寫作（Integrated writing），第二篇作文叫“獨立寫作”（independent writing），和筆考、機考均無兩樣，給定考生一熟悉的話題，讓考生在30分鐘內寫一篇300字的文章。典型的問法是：Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? One should never judge a person by external appearance. Use specific reasons and details to support you answer.不少同學又跟筆者要獨立寫作滿分詳解及滿分模板。

評分標準4：displays language facility by demonstrating syntactic variety, word choice and idiom.（通過譴詞造句和習慣表達來展示語言的熟練程度）
目前托福出題機構ETS已經給出了官方獨立寫作的題庫,有192道.每次考試會從此題庫中選擇試題進行考核,但也不排除另出新題的可能性.
