桑迪· 丹尼斯(Sandy Dennis)早年在當地劇團演出，後來進入紐約演員研修所進修，不久便在外百老匯登台演出。1961年，首登銀幕，在影片《天涯何處無芳草》中出演角色，但她的表演成功首先還是從戲劇表演開始的，她在《千面小丑》和《任何一個星期三》兩劇中的優秀表演，連續兩次獲得托尼獎。1966年，她以影片《靈欲春宵》獲得奧斯卡最佳女配角金像獎；1967年，她主演的影片《上樓》，在第五屆莫斯科國際電影節上獲得最佳女主角獎。
