曼島語（Gaelg 或Gailck），又稱為曼島蓋爾語、馬恩語、馬恩蓋爾語、或曼克斯語，是一種凱爾特語族蓋爾亞支的語言，主要使用於曼島，為中古愛爾蘭語的後裔，和古代北愛爾蘭阿爾斯特和蘇格蘭西南蓋勒韋地區的蓋爾語方言尤為相似。

歷史
曼島語最早可追溯到5世紀左右，現被它的使用者稱為 Gaelg Vanninagh。有項具爭議的說法認為，在1600年代以前，沒有任何關於曼島語的書寫紀錄，然而曼島語的聖經卻在17世紀和18世紀被翻譯完成；當時 carvals（曼島語的宗教歌曲或讚美詩）正在發展，宗教文學普及，然而世俗文學卻很少見。
在十九世紀曼島語逐漸衰微之後，一個稱為 Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh（曼島語語言學會）的組織在 1899年成立。
雖然最後一位曼島語的使用者 Ned Maddrell 於 1974年過世，但隨即進行語言復興，並推廣到一般民眾，許多人也學習了曼島語作為第二語言。之後曼島語的復興主要是在20世紀一群研究者的協助下完成，其中最著名的是1948年的愛爾蘭民俗委員會。
多年之後，曼島語的母語使用者（同時學習英語）終於又出現了——他們是一群由會說曼島語的雙親扶養長大的小孩。現在有一些曼島語的親子啟蒙班，島上的學校也提供了曼島語課程。如今曼島議會使用曼島語，新頒布的法令也由 Yn Lhaihder（朗讀者）以曼島語和英語宣讀。
現今曼島語是《關於區域性語言或少數群體語言的歐洲憲章》的一員，同時也是被英格蘭-愛爾蘭議會承認的區域性語言之一，但它卻被聖科倫巴計畫排除在外，理由是因為曼島文化與當初在愛爾蘭與蘇格蘭兩地傳教的教士聖科倫巴沒有關連，故雖然曼島有自己的蓋爾語及自己的凱爾特文化，它仍然不被聖科倫巴計畫承認，曼島語的相關計畫也都無法得到來自聖科倫巴計畫的資金幫助，但聖科倫巴計畫卻同時給予蘇格蘭格拉斯哥和愛爾蘭都柏林的蓋爾語計畫資金——此二地和聖科倫巴也同樣沒有多大關連。因此聖科倫巴計畫如此拒絕曼島語的作法也引起相當多的爭議。
曼島語的書寫
曼島語的拼寫跟愛爾蘭語和蘇格蘭蓋爾語不同，它不按照蓋爾亞支語言的語源學，反而比較像一位英語使用者嘗試以英語拼寫出蓋爾語的拼字方式；另一方面，曼島語拼寫也在某種程度上受到威爾斯語的影響，可從 'y' 和 'w' 的拼寫上看出。這些都是因為曼島語在發展時缺少了書寫文學，因此之後在嘗試為此語言進行拼字法的標準化時，就很自然地會從英語拼寫的角度來進行了。例如愛爾蘭語的 '曼島'（Isle of Man）被寫成 Oileán Mhanainn，蘇格蘭蓋爾語把它寫成 Eilean Mhanainn，但在曼島語的拼寫卻變成 Ellan Vannin。
雖然一般認為，這樣的拼字法是由一位會說威爾斯語的主教菲利普斯引進，但是這樣的拼字法，卻跟在蘇格蘭找到的一種以英語為基礎的拼字系統相似，例如蘇格蘭蓋爾語的《利斯莫爾主教之書》（the Book of the Dean of Lismore）就是以此系統書寫。
字首子音交替
就像現在其他所有的凱爾特語言一樣，曼島語擁有字首子音交替的特性：其單字的字首音素會根據前後的詞態和句法發生質的改變。書面體的曼島語中，唯一還在使用的子音交替是弱化交替。至於晚期的口語曼島語，這套變音的系統在20世紀被打破：許多使用者常常沒有在該做子音交替的地方做子音交替，或反而在不用做子音交替的地方做子音交替。
