近年來隨著國內和國際形勢的發展，我國對外語人才的需求日益增加，有志於學習外語的學生和社會群體的人數急劇上升，從而使我國外語教學事業蓬勃發展。在這種形勢下，外語師資培訓和自身建設的重要性與日俱增。在這兩方面，當務之急是要了解當今國外外語教學的發展情況，要借鑑國外的最新經驗，結合我國的具體情況，大力提高外語師資的水平，使我們的外語教學事業更上一層樓。
