接下來在《編織戀愛夢》(《How to Make an American Quilt》1995)和《回家過節》（《Home for the Holiday》1995)兩部影片中，她也都有出場，雖然並沒有能引起人們的太大注意，但她也畢竟從中學到了不少的表演經驗。
1996年時，幸運之星開始降臨到黛恩斯身上。在 一部風格現代的影片《羅密歐與朱麗葉》(《ROMEO ANDJULIET》1996)中，黛恩斯獲得了演主角朱麗葉的機會。影片引起了轟動的效果，而黛恩斯也因此在美國名聲大噪，成為頗受矚目的少女明星。同年黛恩斯又主演了《I Love You Not》（1996）和《 To Gillian on her 37th Birthday》(1996)兩部影片。在後者中，黛恩斯主演了一位幫助母親與死亡作鬥爭的女兒。她在片中的表現相當不錯。藉著《羅密歐與朱麗葉》一片的影響，黛恩斯成功地為自己開闢了一條明星之路。
